Welcome to Resources for Teachers and Other Education Practitioners

This page is organized for educators to find information about:

  • Accommodations
  • Engaging more students
  • Awareness of Disabilities students may have
  • Reading challenges

Our set of resources is still growing and you can help - please contact us or send us resources that you think would help other teachers address a specific topic.

Accommodations for Students

Click here for resources that address the following questions:

  • I know that some of my students have IEPs but I don't always know how to integrate their accommodations into my class effectively. What tools are available to better understand and follow my students' accommodations?
  • More and more of my students are using "assistive technology" to help them read, write, and function overall in class. How can I find out more about the "assistive technology" tools that are currently available?
  • What tools are available to help me to give all of my students a better understanding of accommodations in the "real world"?

Engaging More Students

Click here for resources that address the following questions:

  • I want to update my CTE course and make it much more student-driven so I can develop a stronger and more productive academic relationship. How can I get to know and understand my students better so I can create projects that they can (and want to) complete?
  • Some of my CTE students in my program are hard to engage because my program wasn't their first choice. How can I help students to identify and take advantage of the benefits that flow across all CTE classrooms so they can better appreciate being in any CTE program?
  • I hear a lot about "differentiating" activities in my teacher training. What tools are out there to help me differentiate the activities (and even the grading) in my classroom for students who have a wide variety of strengths, interests, and disabilities?

General Disability Awareness

Click here for resources that address the following questions:

  • Federal legislation seems to be changing the number of students with and without disabilities in our CTE classrooms and now there are more "inclusive" CTE schools. Why is there such a push to include more students with disabilities in CTE programs?
  • I want my students to speak to one another and to future customers respectfully. Are there any guidelines for how to speak respectfully about a peer's disability or a customer's disability?
  • I have students in my CTE program that have IEPs and a variety of different disabilities. How can I better understand the unique abilities and special concerns that each of these students have?

Reading Challenges

Click here for resources that address the following questions:

  • Students need to read lots of technical manuals and professional journals in my CTE class. How can I help my student with low reading skills to access the information in these materials?
  • I use a lot of different reading materials in my class so my students with different interests and skills can enjoy reading more. How can I determine the reading level of the materials I want to use?
  • I want to rewrite some materials for my students with significant reading disabilities. Do you have any tips or recommendations for rewriting materials for these students or other students who may have language issues?
